Bessie was the first black woman with a pilots license, and she used her talent and popularity as an aviatrix stunt performer to create change. FLEMMIE PANSY KITTRELL {1904-1980} Flemmie Pansy Kittrell transformed the publics understanding of nutrition and early childhood development. Graduating from a doctoral program in nutrition at Cornell University in 1936, Flemmie became the first African American woman to earn such an advanced degree from the university.
