Essential Supplies alcohol ink isopropyl alcohol a surface on which to start creating Read more Stippling to Create Blooms One of my favorite techniques is creating little blooms using the stippling effect. When isopropyl or a mix of isoropyl and alcohol ink is stippled onto the surface of an alcohol ink wash, little circles form as the isopropyl pushes the ink wash in all directions, exposing more of the paper underneath the ink wash and creating blooms. Drawing Over Washes A fun way to add more controlled details or designs to paintings or craft projects is to draw on top of them with paint and gel pens. There are numerous brands to choose from, but my favorite are Uni Posca paint pens and Sakura gel pens. Embossing Powder Adding embossing powder is a simple method that imparts a rich quality to alcohol ink paintings. I use embossing powder to add quotes and shapes; to highlight details and designs over original alcohol ink paintings; and add a little originality to fine art prints. Adding Texture with a Catalyst A catalyst is a wedge tool made from silicone thats used to spread paint and add texture to paintings. I love using a catalyst to create organic lines and textures. Read more Applying Resin Sometimes youll want to apply resin to a finished project. Use a high-quality resin so your pieces dont yellow over time. I use the brand ArtResin, but there are other high-quality brands to choose from. Make sure you do your research when selecting a resin because its so disappointing when something you worked so hard on turns yellow! Because resin can be finicky, I recommend practicing on a few test pieces before applying it to a final piece. This will help you get a feel for the process and gives you the chance to troubleshoot on a piece you dont care about. Alcohol Ink Painting on Yupo Understanding how to create a basic alcohol ink painting is the foundation for all the other projects in this book. I recommend taking the time to create multiple alcohol ink paintings before moving on to the other projects. Learning the basics is so important to the success of your paintings and/or craft projects. You need to understand how the alcohol ink moves and experiment with the techniques at this stage to catapult you into the projects that follow with ease. In this project, we incorporate basic alcohol ink washes, spraying, and blooming techniques. Tree Silhouette & Night Sky Painting The key to creating this dramatic sky is texture contrasted with a dynamic color palette. In this project, you will paint a simple yet stunning night sky complete with a sweet little silhouette tree line. You will use the ink wash and spray techniques that you learned in earlier chapters. Modern Ornament One of my all-time favorite projects is painting abstract Christmas ornaments.
