Italy The Santa Maria Maggiore Rug was conceived while sheltering from a storm in a Roman cathedral with its magical stained-glass windows. Japan The Kamakura pin cushion captures details from a fence at Kotuku-In temple, through which you can glimpse one of the worlds largest Buddha statues. Turkey The Nazar Mandala draws on the design of a Nazar amulet, a token given to Mark by a stranger for protection against evil on a trip to Bodrum. Greenland The Fading Light Scarf was designed following the fortunate event of seeing the Northern Lights, an experience Mark will treasure for life. India The Rituals Pouf was inspired by Marks visit to Varanasi on the sacred Ganges River and reflects the dazzling colors of the citys temples. Ireland The Irish Shores Blanket, with its Celtic cables and natural colors, captures the rugged coastline and ancient cultures of the north of Ireland. Portugal The Portuguese Tiles pattern came to life following a visit to Lisbon. Mark turned four tiles into a pillow but they could also be used for a throw. Indonesia Ketuts Mandala is dedicated to the fortune teller Mark met in the town of Ubud, Bali, whose beautiful garden contains a pond full of lotus flowers. USA The Rainbow Subway Blanket encapsulates the colors of the New York subway map, while the bending train tracks add texture and interest. Argentina La Boca Shawl takes inspiration from the lace shawls worn by Tango dancers, with colors that capture the unique ambience of Buenos Aires. Poland The Templar Cross Table Runner uses a Crusaders cross as a repeating motif, discovered during a trip to Malbork Castle, home of the Templar Knights. The Guy with the Hook For the past decade, Ive spent my days working for just one reasonto save money to buy a ticket to visit the rarest and most unique places in the world and soak up all the culture, lessons, and experiences. As well as traveling as much as I can, I also crochet. Working with yarn has always been my meditation. When I take my crochet hook and start designing, its like I enter another dimension where nobody can reach me. That inner sense of calm gave me the idea to merge my two passions, and this book is the result. Between the pages of this book you can enjoy my designs and my most treasured travel stories. Each pattern is inspired by a memory, something very personal and precious to me. I hope you enjoy crocheting the patterns and reading my travel tales from all over the world.
