A cute, heartwarming, and inspirational story about a little pumpkin who is judged by his outward appearance rather than who he really is inside. With a lot of practice and help from a friend, he learns how to recognize, understand, and overcome his emotions. A wonderful message for all young children, and especially those dealing with social-emotional and self-acceptance. It’s almost Halloween, Percival P. Pumpkin’s favorite time of year! But this year does not feel like the others, he has lost his smile, and doesn’t know why. Timing couldn’t be worse as tomorrow is the Pick a Pumpkin for Your Porch event he has been looking forward to all year. Despite this, Percival decides to attend the pumpkin event where the experience goes from bad to worse. Until, that is, a little girl with a crooked smile comes along, saves Percival, and shows him what it means to love oneself and not change who you are. Author’s note: the authors, Michael and Lennon, are father and son. Lennon created the outline for the Grumpy Pumpkin as a first grader when the class was beginning to learn about descriptive writing. His dad wrote the story based on that outline. Now 9 years old and powered by ADHD and neurodivergent enabled, Lennon himself is a very social-emotional boy who receives behavioral development services to help him better understand his own feelings and emotions, as well as those of others. Proceeds from sales of Grumpy Pumpkin will go to support children in need of such services as they have benefited Lennon greatly.
