Read more Editorial Reviews Reviews Praise for Karma: In Karma, Mike Albee delivers whipsmart humour alongside devastating darkness and depravity. This tale of a superhero-turned-vigilante is Deadpool meets American Psycho. It is the story of one man struggling to find his place in the world as a superhero, a man, a husband and a father to a daughter. Albee's unique storytelling style is among the most original I've ever come across. Lisa Edwards, Published The Hunger Games, His Dark Materials, Horrible Histories. A revelation into the life of an adult male balancing purpose with a dark and destructive shadow. I laughed out loud, spent some time in thought, and cried more than once. The novel is powerful, uplifting, and thought-provoking. If were lucky, Michael is writing his second book as we speak! Courtney Robertson, #1 New York Times bestselling author of I Didn't Come Here to Make Friends: Confessions of a Reality Show Villain A perfect debut. Thrilling, moving, funny and packed with characters who will tug on your heartstrings. Anita B. Jainow, Michaels Mother Brilliant humor coupled with knife to the heart emotion. After reading the ending I had to take a walk! Wayne Kerr, Michaels only friend For all the turmoil and sleepless nights preparing, I was absolutely honored to be in the book. This novel is an interpretation of the most beautiful parts of a broken humanity that were all destined to survive in. Ophelia, 9th most important character in Karma If Sin City and Fight Club had a bastard child that child's name would be Karma. A thrilling read start to finish. Karma is a story that highlights a man coping with his newfound superpowers that bring him to the brink of madness. He struggles to find peace with his responsibilities in the most non superhero, yet very human ways. Karma is filled with debaucherous scenes straight out of nightmares that come alive on the page. The writing, while at times gruesome, really helps highlight the protagonists struggles with mental illness and truly emphasize the books overall themes of right and wrong, daily struggles, human relationships and the crushing weight of responsibilities people all over the world face on a daily basis. This book is filled with lots of sex, dr*gs, and loss of control. Albee expertly walks the line between brilliance and insanity, sprinkling in lots of surprisingly clean humor, and more than enough wise inspirational viewpoints to truly round out this novel. At points you'll have to put it down for a breath and at others you wont be able to stop reading. An unbridled success for a debut novel from a first-time author. Karma checks all the boxes. Chapter 15 Peruvian Dirt Ayahuasca is an entheogenic brew made out of the Banisteriopsis caapi vine and the Psychotria viridis leaf. For the record, I dont know what the heck any of that means. I do know the active ingredient is dimethyltryptamine, otherwise known as DMT. DMT increases your heart rate, elevates your blood pressure and makes your temperature rise. It also puts you into an altered state of consciousness; a very colorful state of consciousness. Ayahuasca is known among the ians as the grandmother, for its ability to gain access to human consciousness and to teach us to do the best we can with the precious gift of our life on this Earth. In the sixteenth century, Christian missionaries from Spain and Portugal first encountered indigenous South Americans using ayahuasca; they claimed it was the work of the devil. That was right before they sodomized little boys against their will. The plant itself has been used in the Incan faith as a religious healing tool for what many anthropologists believe to be at least three thousand years. Some anthropologists suggest its been used for as many as five thousand years. Ayahuasca is a medicinal plant and is effective in treating patients with PTSD, depression, anxiety and addiction. Facilities in North America are opening. There are clinics in Vancouver, Seattle, and Salt Lake City, Utah. The word ayahuasca means deaths rope. The goal is to not hang oneself, but to use the rope for rebirth. Ayahuasca activates the amygdala, acting as a missile silo for emotional memories. They erupt within the consciousness, causing the person to feel and experience that exact moment in time. My second ayahuasca ceremony was calm. It took me about fifty-five minutes to finally vomit. If I didnt mention it earlier, along with the all-healing nature and mystical wonder, theres also a ton of vomiting and sh*tting. They leave that part off of the brochure. I was amazed at the low volume of Chester, Margaret, O, Brit, and Tetro. They were like low-volume static now. The medicine was working. My mind was being cleansed. While the normal ration is one dose, on the second night, I, along with one other member of the group, took two doses. The thick liquid sat at the bottom of my stomach. A wave of grace hit me, and I pleaded with the grandmother, asking her to heal me. A thought struck: maybe I dont need healing, maybe I just need control...
