The Dalai Lama has much to tell us about ourselves and our struggles; about human beings who would value peace if we took the time to look deep into our hearts; about our modern world if we didnt live alienated from each other; about valuing the earth and animal kingdom; and about the amazing energy of our minds when invested in a spiritual approach to living and relating to the world. With practical truth firmly rooted in the realities of life in this modern world, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, invites you to rediscover fundamental values such as love, respect for all life, and the desire for peace, all of which are necessary for human survival. Hope and strength to address any difficulties of our struggles in our modern world today Read more The way of Peace An excerpt from His Holiness The Dalai Lama If I were to develop feelings of vindictiveness, anger, or hatred towards the Chinese, who would be the loser? I would, because I'd lose my own peace of mind, my sleep, & my appetite. My bitterness would not effect the Chinese in the least. If we want to work effectively for freedom & justice, it's better to do so without anger or deviousness. If we feel calm, and act with a sincere motivation, we can accomplish many things in the 30 - 50 active years or our life. And if some positive results have already been seen from this approach, I think I can say that it's in part because of my commitment to a pacifist cause, a commitment motivated by a genuine belief in the brotherhood of mankind. Love and Compassion We are not a very large nation or powerful nation, but our way of life, our culture, and our spiritual tradition have helped us follow the way of peace even at times of tremendous difficulty and hardship, and have given us courage in our wish to develop love and compassion. Never stop asking yourself these questions. Reflecting on these points will show you just how much a spoilsport your mind is, and how necessary it is to tame it. The Buddhist teaching Usually, when I describe the essence of Buddhism I say that at best we should try to help others, and if we cannot help them at least we should do them no harm.
