About the Author: Edna Ferber was an American novelist, playwright, and screenwriter. She was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan and grew up in various towns across the Midwest. She worked for several newspapers, including the Chicago Tribune, before turning to fiction writing. Ferber's first novel, "Dawn O'Hara," was published in 1911, and she went on to write many more best-selling works, including "Show Boat," "Cimarron," and "Saratoga Trunk." She also wrote several plays, including "The Royal Family" and "Dinner at Eight," which were both successful on Broadway. In addition to her success as a writer, Ferber was known for her outspokenness and her commitment to social justice. She was an advocate for women's rights and civil rights, and her work often dealt with themes of race and gender. She also received many awards and honors throughout her career, including the Pulitzer Prize for "So Big" in 1925. And became the first woman to receive the George S.
